Survival 2013
Day 1:
On day one we arrived on the island. We and the other stranded people decided to make team names and work together to help us all survive. We traded with other people who had supplies but things got out of control and people started to steal and fight to get materials they needed.
Day 2:
On day two we found who we were going to work with. Then the three of us started to come up with a name logo and slogan to compete with the rest of the survivors. All the other groups did the same.
Day 3/4:
On day three we had to fight for resources to build solar popcorn ovens. All we had to make them were tin foil, scrap wood, duct tape, pans, and the popcorn. Our group got together with three other groups to make our oven. THe next day we spent hours trying to refract the thermal energy created by the suns rays into the focused area were the oil was. We made six designs but none succeeded, nor did any other groups design work.
Day 5:
On day five we had a sacratic seminar about the book that we were reading, Butterfly revolution and Lord of the flies. Unfortunately i was not there to debate because i was teaching for MUN at the middle school, however i heard the last bit of the debate which was about how it would be different if there were girls as the main characters instead of boys. It was very interesting what peoples ideas and opinions were about how it would be more productive.
Day 6:
On day six we saw a boat in the distance, we all had to make ballons out of tissue paper and glue, our first few attempt did not work, we started with a tube shape that did not fill with enough hot air to rise. After along while i came back from teaching at the middle school, i looked at a few designs and then got an idea. I got six sheets of paper and created a cube out of them, then i cut a hole in the corner and filled it with hot air. it was the only one that actually flew. then it landed on a church.
Day 7:
On the last day we had another sacratic seminar. In this one we discussed the book again but by answering many different questions. i spoke the most and received a lot of recognition notes.
