Quadratics
Imagine you throw a ball or fall off of a cliff, as your falling you notice you move in a spesific way. The curve you fallin is caled a quadratic. They are defined as something raised to the second, but no higher, of a variable. People often look at them and say "that does not apply to the real world" but in fact, you see them everyday. One of the most important aspects of a quadratic is the roots, or solutions, or zeros. They are important for a lot of reasons, for example finding the interception of a moving object with the ground. To find the solutions, you can use the quadratic equation, you can complete the square, or you can factor.
The topic of quadratics was not a new subject to me at all. I had previously worked with all the methods that we explored, and done the derivations of the equation. However as we would go through the topics I was able to review and refresh all of the things that I had previously learnded, as well I was able to connect concepts from Calculus for finding different aspect of the equations and projects.
A HOAM that I used was "looks for patterns to make problem solving eaiser". I used this one to find the equations of some of the problems that we were working on in class. This HOAM was very useful in this unit because quadratics follow spesific patterns that can help you solve them.
